Why avoid adopting an affectionate dachshund? There are a whole bunch of good reasons not to invite this little low-to-the-ground dog into your home. π Curious to know what they are? Read this article to the end to discover the 19 Reasons Not to Adopt a Dachshund ππ!

Reason 1: Because the dachshund is a stubborn little dogβ¦
If you are a fan of "anything goes," it is obvious that a doxie is not for you. This little dog with a strong personality will wrap you around its little finger if you don't show some firmness. But be careful, with a sausage dog, the credo is: "an iron fist in a velvet glove" π
Reason 2: Because the doxie isn't cute enough
Expressive beautiful brown eyes, pretty floppy ears, chubby little paws, a magnificent coat ranging from black to merle, that is certainly not the description of a cute little dogβ¦π₯°
Reason 3: Because the dachshund is overflowing with energy
Another reason not to adopt a dachshund: it is a lively and energetic dog that needs a daily walk, loves to play and do physical activities regularly, otherwise watch out for little outbursts (barking, chewingβ¦).
The dachshund is definitely not to be adopted if you are the type of owner who prefers to lounge in front of the TV after a long day of work instead of going out for some fresh air. π
Reason 4: The dachshund is a rigorous and demanding coach
Having a dachshund means you are guaranteed to have to get some daily physical exercise! They can be insistent about you getting in at least a short hour of walking every dayβ¦ in their company, of course. πΆ

Β
Reason 5: The dachshund can become a full-fledged family member in the blink of an eye
By adopting a dachshund, you run the risk of having a new family member crashing your Christmas photos...π With their sweet and affectionate character, you risk falling under their devastating charm quickly and even letting them take a spot in the bed! π
Reason 6: The sausage dog is too greedy
It is well known that four-legged sausages are real gluttons who gobble up almost everything they are offered. If you don't pay attention to their diet, they might even suffer from obesity and back problems. Not the ideal type of dog for those who have neither the time nor the desire to worry about what their dog eats. π
Reason 7: The dachshund is quite an investment
Between the daily activities and games, you also have to think about taking them for a health check-up at the vet, offering them some grooming and regular brushing, not to mention outings in nature to give them the opportunity to rediscover their true nature as a hunting dog. In short, quite a responsibility! π€
Reason 8: The dachshund cuddles excessively? Too much for you
Another reason not to adopt a dachshund is because they are a dog that loves cuddles. Whether you are sitting quietly on your sofa or enjoying a Sunday morning lie-in, they will not hesitate to jump on you to ask for their daily dose of cuddles. Not very pleasant, is it? π₯°
Reason 9: The dachshund will steal your children's hearts
A truly easygoing dog, children love their company and it is mutual. They can become the best friend who teaches your child the meaning of kindness and even responsibility. In a short time, they can manage to displace you in your child's heart! π

Reason 10: The dachshund will ruin neighborly relations
Even if a doxie is a particularly independent dog, they are not very fond of long hours of solitude... They can start barking incessantly when left without company and alone at home, which is sure to annoy the neighbors. π
Reason 11: The dachshund is a fierce hunter
Given that the dachshund is a born hunter, their primitive instinct can sometimes push them to attack small pets and even dogs larger than themselves without worry. But rest assured, this only happens when they have not been socialized from a very young age. π
Reason 12: The sausage dog likes other pets and risks making them allies
Once the dachshund has adopted (yes, that is indeed the right term) your other pet, they will become the best of friends. π₯³ They can thus be very protective of their new companion, but they can also pass on the idea of conquering the worldβ¦ and especially your heart.
Reason 13: A dachshund is clingy!
Yet another reason not to adopt a doxie: they will follow you everywhere you go in the house! It is a way for them to express all their affection, but above all, their role as a bodyguard is very important to them. Pleasantly intrusive, one might say. π
Reason 14: A dachshund offers happiness and it is sometimes "too much"
According to some studies, receiving cuddles from a dog is an excellent stress reliever as your body produces oxytocin, commonly known as the "happiness hormone." At any moment, a dachshund can send you a surging wave of happiness and good mood. Watch out for the tidal wave! ππ

Reason 15: You will become an instrument enslaved to their whims
If you are the type of owner who gives in quickly to every tender little look, avoid adopting a dachshund. They know perfectly well how to use their charm to get everything they want! π
Reason 16: Thanks to your dachshund you will make friends, not great for the lone wolf that you are
If you don't like interacting with people, we strongly advise against adopting a dachshund and walking with them in public. During walks, be aware that it is customary to chat among dachshund enthusiasts. π
Reason 17: Dachshunds are too intelligent
A clever and mischievous little dog, they can easily and quickly remember instructions and house rules, just as they can decipher your phone code without much difficulty! π€
Reason 18: If you don't want a guard dog
Despite their small size, the dachshund is a courageous and bold ball of fur. They will not hesitate to bark at the mailman or a guest who does not inspire trust. If you want a docile little dog without reactions, look elsewhere! π
Reason 19: If you want to make them a replacement dog
If you have lost a dog and wish to adopt a dachshund to fill the void left by your pet, it is better not to adopt one. This little pooch has their own personality, so don't expect them to fit into the mold you have planned for them.
